Securing Information Technology in the Commonwealth

Since September 11 and the subsequent development of the Governor's Homeland Security Team, The Governor's Office for Technology (GOT) has increased awareness and monitoring of the Commonwealth's information technology security infrastructure. Since 9/11, GOT has implemented, reviewed or participated in the following:

  • Increased physical security at Commonwealth IT facilities

  • Increased monitoring of cyber security activities across the enterprise
    network

  • Enhanced virus management activities, including improved scans of the enterprise email system for viruses

  • Proactive issuance to key Cabinet contacts of security alert notification

  • Establishment of the Homeland Security Web site in conjunction with the
    Governor's Homeland Security Team

  • Reviewed and advised cabinets and agencies regarding public access to sensitive Web content

  • Participated in design and execution of the tabletop bioterrorism exercise
    with Cabinet Secretaries

  • Increased emphasis on disaster recovery planning and created a request for proposal (RFP) for an expanded disaster recovery plan

  • Participated in meetings and training at the national level with the Office of Homeland Security and the Office of Management and Budget on matters related to state and cyber security
