The Kentucky Department
for Adult Education and Literacy, in partnership with the Kentucky Virtual
Library, a unit of the Council on Dr. Cheryl King, the Councils associate vice president for adult education, said, We are delighted that Kentucky is on the forefront of adult education and has contributed to such an important national initiative. The project, known
as LINCS (Literacy Information and Communication System), is a national
collaborative database of 5,000 records with links to online resources
for adult education instructors. LINCS provides instructors with a free,
single point of access to literacy resources, knowledge, and expertise
from across the nation and world. Eighteen Kentucky educators and librarians generated the content for the records in the Kentucky Adult Education Resource database. Over 150 resources- ranging from lesson plans and GED information to basic math resources- will be uploaded to the LINCS database. Kentuckys initiative is also searchable through the Library of Congress. We are very pleased that Kentucky is able to build the Kentucky Adult Education Resource Database and contribute these records to LINCS, explained Kentucky Virtual Library Director Ling-yuh W. (Miko) Pattie. She
added, We are especially pleased that we are able to convert the
LINCS database- an international search and retrieval protocol- to be
Z39.50 compliant, so that other organizations can incorporate this unique
database into
their own offerings using their own user interfaces. -- end --
