Kentucky Officials Meet to Strategize Improved Public Safety Communications

Implementation of Wireless Strategic Plan to be Outlined At ConferencePSWN Logo

Government and public safety officials from across Kentucky will gather in Lexington on December 4, 2002, to address a key homeland security issue-wireless communications interoperability-the ability of law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services personnel to communicate via radio in operational situations. Studies show that across the Nation, public safety officials have trouble talking to one another in operational situations one-third of the time. The Public Safety Wireless Network (PSWN) Program and the Commonwealth of Kentucky, Office of the Chief Information Officer, are jointly hosting the 1-day conference.

The conference will include a combination of speaker panels and briefings related to state-level public safety communications solutions and strategies. Featured speakers include:

  • Major General D. Allen Youngman, The Adjutant General
  • Aldona Valicenti, Chief Information Officer, Commonwealth of Kentucky
  • Robert E. Lee, Jr., PSWN Program Manager, Department of Justice
  • Rick Murphy, PSWN Program Manager, Department of the Treasury

The conference takes place at the Hyatt Regency Lexington, 401 West High Street, Lexington, Kentucky and begins at 8 a.m.

More About PSWN
The PSWN Program is a joint initiative of the Department of Justice and the Department of the Treasury. The program's mission is to plan for and foster interoperability among local, state, federal, and tribal public safety wireless networks so that no life is lost because public safety responders cannot communicate with one another.
