E-Commerce - The Preferred Method for Kentucky's Hunters and Fishermen

If you just look at the numbers from 2001, one story appears to steal the headlines from all the others over at Kentucky Fish and Wildlife. It isn't the number of deer harvested. That was pretty normal, down just slightly from 2000 to just over 102,000. And it really wasn't the number of record-sized fish that were caught, although 4 did break state records including: the Goldeye, Skipjack Herring, Grass Carp and Blue Sucker. It seems the real news this year out of Fish and Wildlife is how many more Kentucky hunters and fishermen are now choosing to use an e-commerce method (visiting their Website or using Fish and Wildlife's telephone technology) to conduct business with Fish and Wildlife.

In 2001 almost 7,100 transactions were completed on Fish and Wildlife's Website. Those transactions included hunting and fishing licenses and permits, gift shop sales and Kentucky Afield magazine sales. However, the licenses and permits make up the vast majority of transactions. The 2001 numbers are up dramatically from 2000 when around 2,300 were completed, and 1999 when around 560 were completed. According to Jeff Kays, License Section Supervisor with Fish and Wildlife, "The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources is excited about the growth of our E-Commerce systems. We are striving to better serve our consumers in this age of technological evolution. We look forward to continued growth and success."
