Kentucky Medicaid Providers Tap Into New Online System

Kentucky Department for Health Services

The Kentucky Department for Medicaid Services has announced the development of the Internet Information Processing System (IIPS) which allows Medicaid providers instant access to Medicaid specific data on-line. The IIPS is a system developed specifically for Medicaid providers to view recipient information when it is needed any time day or night.

Kentucky Medicaid currently enrolls 670,214 recipients with 30,542 medical providers. Taking into consideration that recipients need medical care around the clock, and the fact that Medicaid personnel are normally only available during traditional working hours, the IIPS is playing a major roll in keeping these services going 24 hours a day.

To put the value of this system into perspective, below is a listing of data currently available on the Internet Information Processing System; including the number of web site hits to date. Each web site hit indicates a Medicaid provider obtaining information for a specific recipient.

  • Recipient Information is available to all active Medicaid providers and is truly the most needed information available on-line at this time. This feature allows providers to view recipients eligibility segments, third party liability (TPL), patient liability, and spend down information. Since implementation in September 2003, this data has received 96,616 web site hits.

  • KenPAC providers have access to an Internet listing of current KenPAC recipients for which the provider receives a management fee payment. Since implementation in August 2003, this data has received 1,081 web site hits.

  • Nursing Facilities have access to an Internet listing of residents assigned to that facility including certification number and dates, as well as the recipients Medicaid eligibility segments. Since implementation in August 2003, this data has received 2,591 web site hits.

  • Qualifying Income Trust (QIT) which is a listing of recipients assigned to a particular provider, meeting the criteria for needing a QIT to maintain Medicaid eligibility. Since implementation in September 2003, this data has received 110 web site hits.

The Department continues to implement other data that we know will be just as useful as the aforementioned data. On the agenda for the IIPS:

  • KenPAC recipient/provider information - which will allow a provider access to the recipients' KenPAC providers' name and telephone number.

  • Claim Status - providers will be able to view the status of their claims and receive detailed information on each claim.

  • Pharmacy History - which will show the history of pharmaceutical claims for a specific recipient.
