Kentucky GIS Conference 2002 Coming Up

Kentucky's 8th Annual Geographic Information Systems Conference "GIS: Securing the Future of Tri-State" will be held August 12 through 15 at the Drawbridge Inn in Northern Kentucky. This year's conference is being sponsored by the Indiana/Kentucky/Ohio Chapter of the Geospatial Information and Technology Association. Over 500 attendees are expected.

Activities include a keynote speech by Bruce Oswald, Assistant Director of Statewide Initiatives, New York State Office for Technology. Mr. Oswald will discuss how GIS played a role in the aftermath of the World Trade Center disaster. Monday and Thursday, August 12 and 15, are devoted to educational opportunities for local GIS professionals. Tuesday and Wednesday will feature 65 presentations on a variety of GIS topics focused on both technical and real-world issues such as Tornado Damage Assessment, Crime Pattern Analysis, Floodplain Mapping, and Forest Block Analysis.

The Kentucky Geography Network (KGN) will also be introduced at the conference. KGN is the statewide clearinghouse of GIS data, in cooperation with a national GIS initiative.
