Kentucky Virtual Library for Kids Takes Off

The Kentucky Virtual Library for Kids was launched at Frankfort's Hearn Elementary School in October, marking another virtual first in Kentucky.

The site is accessed through the Kentucky Virtual Library, a part of the Kentucky Virtual University.

Gov. Paul E. Patton and Norma Adams, chair of the Council on Postsecondary Education, were the featured speakers at the launch.Space Dog

Every elementary school student in all 120 Kentucky counties now has free, 24/7 access to "Space Dog" and "All the Known Information in the Universe" through this fun and informative portal designed for first through fifth graders.

Students will find:

  • Grolier's Encyclopedias in English and Spanish
  • Searchasaurus that connects students to magazines and almanacs
  • Kentuckiana Digital Library filled with historical documents
  • A step-by-step guide to help students learn how to research online

Fifteen Kentucky educators and librarians at elementary, secondary and postsecondary levels participated in the planning of this project.

The Kentucky Virtual Library is a part of the Kentucky Virtual University, a unit of the Council on Postsecondary Education.
