My New Kentucky Home is Taking the Hits
November 10,
2003
When the new
state Website launched on September 15th, the Kentucky.gov Web
Portal Team thought that visitors would appreciate the new look,
new features and the new search engine. They were right.
Visitors have flocked to the site and are taking full advantage
of all of the improvements.
"In addition
to a new design and layout, two features have really enhanced
the user interface for this site," according to Randy Kitchen
from the Kentucky.gov Portal Team. "The new Google search
engine, recognized as the leader in Internet search engines worldwide,
has been a tremendous improvement in our search capabilities.
Not only is it extremely robust and efficient, it also allows
individual agencies to add specific search capabilities for their
sites. Another feature that has enhanced the user experience for
many users is the 'Live Help' option that allows users to chat
directly with a live person on a real time basis, pointing visitors
to the answers they need. From September 15th until October 30th,
Kentucky.gov's 'Live Help' has responded to almost 1,700 questions
from Kentucky business, citizens and visitors worldwide."
One area of
Kentucky.gov that has huge potential for visitors to stay connected
is the "Newsroom" and "Calendar" links at
the top of the page. Those areas are updated daily, linking visitors
directly with news, meetings, and events from all areas of state
government. Kentucky.gov has brought these topics together in
one easy to find place, instead of having visitors do the hard
work of finding agency Websites to find the information.
Coming in
the months ahead the portal team is hoping to roll out a more
efficient way to track bills in the upcoming legislative session
along with many other projects now in production. Stay tuned as
more and more site features and improvements pop up on http://kentucky.gov.
