Moves Up in the Best of the Web Awards
October
5, 2004
It's
that time of year when Web site managers for state governments
nationwide either get their hopes up or have them dashed. All
year long they work to improve their official state government
Web site in hopes of doing well in the Best of the Web (BOW) Awards
presented by the Center for Digital Government. The BOW celebrates
innovations and achievement in state government portals, looking
for ways states have improved service delivery, ease of use, and
communication to citizens, businesses or educational communities.
Kentucky has every reason to be proud of its work as Kentucky.gov
is a finalist this year.

The
BOW gives a numerical ranking (1-5) to the top five states and
categorizes the next five as finalist. Kentucky placed as a finalist
this year, their highest ranking in the four years since the BOW
started. The top five states were Maine, Indiana, Virginia, Delaware,
Arizona, followed by the finalist (in alphabetical order) Alabama,
Kentucky, Michigan, Nebraska and Tennessee.
According
to Mike Inman, Commissioner of Technology in the Commonwealth Office
of Technology, "There are a couple of key rating reports
that we use to measure our progress each year and The Best of
the Web Awards is one of these. We consider it a very important
indicator of our performance for delivering online services to
Kentucky citizens and businesses."
Coming
soon to Kentucky.gov will be a new and improved look and feel
for the site and the ability for visitors to customize their experience--including
an enhanced "Newsroom" with the ability to sign up to
be delivered news, event and announcements from state government
by topic via e-mail.
