Wireless
Committee Working to Improve Communication For First Responders
September
3, 2003
When
the Kentucky Wireless Interoperability Executive Committee (KWIEC)
convenes for their first meeting on September 29, they will be
guided by one single vision - to make sure no life is lost in
Kentucky because public safety personnel cannot talk to one another
at the scene of an emergency.
The committee
formed as a result of the passage of HB-309 during the 2003 General
Assembly. They will advise and make recommendations to the Chief
Information Officer of the Commonwealth, Aldona Valicenti, regarding
strategic wireless initiatives to achieve public safety voice
and data communications interoperability.
One of the
objectives of the executive committee will be to break down those
communication barriers to allow for increased efficiency and response
time for municipal and county government, police, fire, sheriff,
EMS, and 911 dispatch. Some state and local offices represented
on the committee include:
- Governor's
Office for Technology
- Kentucky
